Animals smothered.

--At the burning of the menagerie of the Messrs. Goodwin, at Boston, on Tuesday night, the fire did not reach the animals, but the smoke smothered them. Among the animal lost was a royal Bengal tiger, said to have been the largest and best specimen in the country, and the most valued of any single animal in the collection. The other animals were all fine specimens, and numbered three lions, four leopards, two. African tigers, two bears, a hyena, jackal, African goat, muskrat leopard cat, horned horse, about forty monkeys, two trick mules, three trick ponies, and five hemes, all of which perished. The animals alone were gained at about $40,000
