The Hampton volunteers.

--We are requested by Lieut. Col. J. B. Cary, of the 32d Virginia regiment, to acknowledge the receipt of fifty dollars from Major J. Thompson Brown, of Richmond, for the benefit of the Hampton volunteers. We hope to have the gratification of recording many similar individual donations. Attractive entertainments have been given in behalf of the same good cause, but our people seem disinclined to countenance this method of raising a fund, although they are not, as a general thing, averse to attending places of amusement. The audience at the theatre, on Tuesday night, was far below the average number, and the concert given on Thursday night, by Prof. Decœniel and M'lle De Vries, did not pay expenses.--Still, we believe there exists in this community a sincere sympathy for the Hampton refugees, and it ought to be made known by generous offerings of aid.
