War matters.

Though rumors were abundant yesterday, we were informed last evening that the Government had received no intelligence of sufficient interest to communicate to the public. We give in another article some encouraging intelligence of the struction of affairs about New Orleans; which will we hope, tend to alley the apprehension of those who were so busy yesterday in circulating a report that the city had been captured by the enemy.

Information, believed to be reliable, has been received, that the Federal are landing troops on this side of the Rappahannock river, above Urbanna, and this leads to a supposition that a movement is in contemplation across the country toward Richmond. That every possible effort will be made by the enemy to advance upon the capital we have no doubt, and we feel equally confident that he will encounter some very serious obstacles in the way of success, whatever routs he may select.

Beyond a reports that a sharp skirmish commenced yesterday morning in the neighborhood of Yorktown. We have nothing new from the Peninsula. It is stated, however that a large number of troops were largest at the Preston Tuesday last, which contradicts the rumor that McClellan was engaged about the same time in moving his forces away from that place.
