The first legal town-meeting, to act on matters relating to the war, was held on the 21st of May; at which it was voted to appropriate not exceeding two thousand dollars, to be applied by the selectmen in aiding the families and dependants of volunteers of that town who may have enlisted or shall enlist in the military service. A committee was appointed to solicit subscriptions to compensate the members of Captain Bancroft's company for time spent in drilling. September 27th, An additional one thousand dollars were appropriated for State aid to soldiers' families. 1862. July 21st, Voted, to pay a bounty of one hundred and fifty dollars to each volunteer who shall enlist for three years, and be credited to the quota of the town. A committee of five from each school-district was chosen to co-operate with a committee chosen at a general meeting of citizens in obtaining recruits.
