[597] κεραυνῷ: cf. Varro Atac. fr. 9, Cum te flagranti deiectum fulmine, Phaethon. Ovid (Met. 2. 1-366) gives the fullest account of the story of Phaethon, the son of Helios, who was slain by Zeus for driving the chariot of the Sun too near the earth, his lifeless body falling into the Eridanus.
