From the South.

One of the South Carolina volunteers, who arrived last evening, mentioned a rumor that Fort Pickens had been taken by Gen. Bragg, after a terrible battle, and a loss of 1,004 men on our side. The report needs confirmation.

New Orleans, (Via Charleston,) April 22.-- A meeting was held here to-day to clear the city of Abolitionists and suspected persons. Two are under arrest.

The free negroes have organized a company to defend the State.
