Heavy Defalcation in a dry goods establishment.

--A young man who has occupied a responsible position as head clerk in one of the departments of the large dry goods establishment of Messrs. Hovey & Co., on Summer street, Boston, was detected last week in the act of appropriating to his own use funds which belonged to the firm. Subsequent inquiry led to the discovery of the fact, that his embezzlements extended over several years, and amounted, in the aggregate, to about $10,000. His employers, overcome by the entreaties of his wife, attached what property he had, but permitted him to go "unwhipped of justice."
