The Legislature.
The Senate yesterday passed a number of local bills, including one incorporating the Insurance Company of the
State of Virginia, of
Richmond.
A bill was reported for amending the charter of the
Holiday's Cove Railroad.
The
House passed a number of Senate bills, including bills increasing the pay of certain officers of the Public Guard; extending the corporate limits of
Fredericksburg, and incorporating the
Commonwealth's Savings Bank of
Richmond.
The bill allowing additional compensation to the
Adjutant General, for the years 1859-60, was laid on the table.
The bill for the sale of the
James River and Kanawha Canal to the French Company being on its engrossment, was called up and passed. --ayes 115, noes 2.
The members of the
House did themselves honor by the promptness and unanimity with which they acted on this important bill.
Its passage was immediately communicated to the Senate.
