Daring attempt at Robbery.

--On Sunday evening last, about 7 o'clock, at the corner of 9th and Marshall streets, a young man, who for some time had been in the habit of carrying about his person large sums of money, was attacked by four ruffians, armed with slung shot, and severely beaten. --Luckily he had a dirk knife, which he drew and plunged into one of them, causing him to beat a hasty retreat to relieve himself of the knife blade, which was then fast in his person. The calls for help of the party attacked soon brought several persons to his assistance, and caused the other assassins to flee. The infliction of the wound may possibly lead to the detection of these four ruffians, as one of them is believed to have been severely stabbed in or near the left shoulder. Carrying money at night is a dangerous practice, and one that should always be avoided by business men.
