AUBENAS
Ardèhe, France.
Situated in Gallia Narbonensis. Although not a Gallo-Roman city, it is
surrounded by a number of Gallic and Roman sites. At
Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux, in the area called the Champ des
Colonnes, is a somewhat carelessly built Gallo-Roman
villa which has yielded some pottery (terra sigillata,
everyday ware, and white Allier ware) and a bronze
statuette of the goddess Victoria. The oppidum of Jastres
was first Galhic, then Roman. At Saint-Martin-les-Ollières
and at Mas Geole are two villas that show traces of ironworking and pottery manufacture.
