ASCOS

ASCOS (ἀσκός), a leathern bag, chiefly of goat-skin, mostly used for the transport of wine (Hom. Il. 3.247; Od. 5.265, 6.78), as in the south of Europe in the present day, is also the name to vessels resembling goat-skins. (Hermann, Griech. Ant. iv.3 p. 232; Dennis, Etruria, i. p. cxxv.) [W.S]
