ARAE SESTIA´NAE

ARAE SESTIA´NAE (Σηστίου Βωμοί ά̀κρον), three altars erected in honour of Augustus on a promontory near the NW. extremity of Spain. Pliny (4.20. s. 34) and Ptolemy (2.6.3) place the headland a little N. of Nerium Pr. (C. Finisterre), which would correspond to C. Villano; Mela (3.1.9) carries it further eastward; the former is the more probable position.
