GANODU´RUM

GANODU´RUM (Γανόδουρον), one of the two Helvetian cities mentioned by Ptolemy (2.9. s. 20). The termination dur seems to show that it was on some river, but there is no evidence of any kind, except Ptolemy's figures, to fix its position; and that evidence is worth nothing. Some reasons have been given for supposing it to be near the entrance of the Rhine, on to the lake of Constanz, not far from Stein. (Walckenaer, Géographe des Gatules, vol. i. p. 317.)
