--A plan was put in operation a short while since, by some of the Federalists, for the purpose of effecting the capture of some of our forces.
Everything was worked admirably well; our troops were marching right into the share provided for them, when suddenly, and without any apparent reason for the move, they right about faced and marched out of harm's reach, to the complete chagrin and disappointment of their enemies.
The officer in charge of this unsuccessful expedition, in making his report, said in substance: "That they (the
Confederates) were in league with the devil or had the benefit of air telegraphs, he didn't know which; but that, any way, it was impossible to catch them.
