." This work, which has been for some time in the course of publication, is from the pens of Mr. B. M. De Witt
and Mr. Ed. A. Pollard
, both of this Connected, as both these gentleman have been, with the press, better facilities have been offered for a careful collection of facts than could have been attained elsewhere.
Both, too, have been intimate with the events which caused the present revolution, with the facts connected with its beginning, and with the results of the war up to the present moment.
This work proposes to trace the progress of political events as concisely as possible, from the establishment of the U. S. Government to the inauguration of Lincoln
Then commences the history of the present war, which will be continued up to the latest moment the pages can be with held from the printer.
The value of such a work will be great in a statistical point of view, saying nothing of the interest attached to the description of battle scenes.
We hope it may be set before the public at an early date.
That it will meet with a ready sale sale and will deserve a wide-spread circulation, the names of the authors are a sufficient guarantee.

's "Treatise on Field Fortifications," a book of great value to officers in the service.
It embraces instructions in the art of constructing, defending and attacking entrenchments, with general remarks
regarding permanent fortifications.
This book is a revised edition and contains all the original place very finely executed.
We shall give further notice of this valuable work as soon as space will allow.
Meanwhile, we warmly commend it to all in the army.
