EIBEOS
(Payamalani) Turkey.
Site in Phrygia
7 km NE of Sebaste, on the W slope of Mt. Bulkaz. Previously known as Paleo Sebaste or Leonna, it has now
been identified as Eibeos from an inscription found in
1973. Today there are only a few houses on the site,
and the nearest village is Eldeniz. Remains of ancient
walls, among which only a Byzantine church can
be distinguished, can be seen between Eldeniz and
Payamalani. The necropolis has been pillaged, but some
fragments of sarcophagi and door stelai are in the
Selçikler (Sebaste) Museum Depot, and in the Uşak and
Afyon museums.
