PLESTIA
Umbria, Italy.
A municipium of
the tribus Ufentina in a pass by the Lacus Plestinus,
midway from Fulginia to Serravalle. Colfiorito is the
nearest town. It was the scene of a disastrous defeat of
Roman cavalry by Hannibal shortly after the Battle of
Trasimene. Excavations since 1960 have laid bare a
Republican temple, an Iron Age settlement and graveyard, and an important Umbro-Picene sanctuary of Cupra Mater with a votive stips.
