--The remains of
Capt. John P. Harrison, of the
Verina Artillery, reached this city on Saturday evening, by the
Central cars, and were followed to Hollywood Cemetery by a large number of friends, including several members of the legal profession.
Capt. Harrison was a prominent lawyer in
Henrico county, and formerly
Commissioner in Chancery.
With patriotic devotion, he took up arms in the cause of the
South, and was elected to the command of the company above named, a position for which he was well qualitied by study and experience.
The miasma of the
Peninsula, where he was stationed, brought on an intermittent disease, followed by typhoid fever, and he lately returned to the home of his father-in-law in
Hanover county, where he died on Thursday last.
Capt. Harrison was a man of high and honorable character, and his death adds another to the list of valuable citizens who have fallen victims in a war for the defence of their home and firesides.
