ἀναποδ-ίζω , (πούς)
A.make to step back, call back and question, cross-examine, “ἐπειρωτῶν τε καὶ ἀ. τὸν κήρυκα” Hdt.5.92.“ζ; πολλάκις ἀνεπόδιζον τὸν γραμματέα” Aeschin.3.192, cf. Luc.Abd.17:—Pass., Antipho Soph.18.
2. οὐδαμῇ ἄλλῃ ἀνεπόδισε ἑωυτόν in no other passage did he correct himself, retract what he before said, Hdt.2.116.
3. deduct for retrograde motion, Vett.Val.25.26.
II. intr., step back, return, “ἐπὶ τὴν μονάδα” Pythag. ap. Stob.1.10.12 (corr. Heeren), LXX Si.46.4, Luc.Nec.7; “εἰς τοὐπίσω” Hdn.5.6.7; ἀ. πρὸς . . revert, Chor.in Rh.Mus.49.492; κύκλον ἀ. recur in a cycle, Hippod. ap.Stob.4.34.71; of the retrograde motion of the planets, Theo Sm. p.147 H., Procl.Hyp.5.72, etc.: metaph. of festivals which fall late in the calendar, Gem.8.19.
