ἀνταῖος , α, ον, (ἄντα)
A.set over against, right opposite, ἀνταία πληγή a wound in front, right in the breast, S.El.195, E.Andr.844; ἀνταίαν ἔπαισεν (sc. πληγήν) S.Ant.1308.
2. opposed to, hostile, hateful,κνώδαλον . βροτοῖσινA.Ch.588 (lyr.); “πομπάE.IA1323 (lyr.), cf. S. Fr.72,334; θεός ib.335; τἀνταῖα θεῶν their hostile purposes, A.Pers. 604.
II. besought with prayers, epith. of Hecate, etc., A.R.1.1141, cf. Orph.H.41.1; ἀνταία: . . ἱκέσιος, A.Fr.223)ap.Hsch.; ἀνταῖος Ζεύς Sch.Il.22.113.
