1. give drink to cattle, ἵππους ἄρσασα βαθυσχοίνοιο Μέλητος from or at the Meles, h.Hom. 9.3; “ἄ. Σιμόεντος” Euph.66; “ἦρσε τὸν ἵππον” Hdt. l.c.; of rivers, furnish drink for men, Pi.O.5.12:—Pass., drink, “ἀρδόμενοι οὐρῆες ἀπὸ πηγέων” h.Ap.263: metaph., ἄ. φωτί to be drunk with light, Plot. 2.9.3.
