Peck, John Mason 1789-1858

Clergyman; born in Litchfield, Conn., Oct. 31, 1789; was ordained in the Baptist Church in 1813; was an itinerant preacher in the West in 1817-26; settled in Rock Spring, Ill., in 1826. His publications include A guide for emigrants; Gazetteer of Illinois; New guide for emigrants to the West; Father Clark, or the pioneer preacher; and Life of Daniel Boone (in Sparke's American biography). He died in Rock Spring, Ill., March 15, 1858.
