Brilliant achievement — the first Yankee victory
--
A House Bombarded and a Negro Dislodged.
The Norfolk Day Book, of Saturday, gives the following account of an achievement of the enemy:
We learn that one of the
Federal steamers supposed to be the
Quaker City, yesterday fired-about twenty shot and shell into a private dwelling-house near Cape Henry Beach, completely demolishing the entire structure The property, we understand, belongs to
David Corprew,
Esq., and is within a mile and a half of
Lynnhaven Bay.
It had been used as a headquarters for the Princess Anne Cavalry, but it was at that time vacant, no one being on the premises except an old negro man, who was in the yard, and on the first shot striking the house he tumbled over with fright, but on recovering, picked himself up and crawled away on his hands and knees.
