ANAUMACHIOU GRAPHE´
ANAUMACHIOU GRAPHE´ (
ἀναυμαχίου γραφή) was an impeachment of the trierarch who
had kept aloof from action while the rest of the fleet was engaged. In a
cause of this kind, as in the kindred actions
ἀστρατείας, δειλίας, λιποναυτίου, λιποταχίου, the
strategi were naturally the presiding judges. The penalty was atimia without
confiscation of goods, if we may trust Andocides (
de Myst.
§ 74); whereas on conviction
δειλίας or
λιποταχίου, the
property of the offender was confiscated (Lys.
c. Alcib.
1.9). Caillemer (in Daremberg and Saglio s.
v.）
argues from analogy that the punishment of the offender must have been the
same in both cases.
