An Elopement.

--Several days since we were placed in possession of the particulars of an affair which has forever ruined the peace of a very estimable family living in the northern portion of the city. It seems that a gentleman met a countryman (the parties are French,) who was in distressed circumstances, took him, clothed him, and fed him, and procured for him employment. The serpent thus nourished into life turned and stung him. He seduced his benefactor's wife, and at last prevailed upon the deluded woman to elope with him. Securing all the valuables and money she could obtain, the guilty pair took passage upon one of our packets for New Orleans. The injured husband telegraphed to have them arrested, and left on the cars last evening to endeavor to reclaim his wife. We omit names on account of the husband.--The woman is the mother of several children now living.--Memphis Avalanche.
