II. Adj. ἀλκυ^ονίδες , αἱ, with or without ἡμέραι, winter days during which the halcyon builds, and the sea is calm, hence prov. of undisturbed tranquillity, Ar. Av.1594, cf. Arist.HA 542b15, Philoch.180, Luc.Halc.2, Suid.; placed in spring by Ps.- Democr. ap. Gem. Calend.9: sg. in Alciphr.1.1.
