Blake, your agent, of this city, to furnish me with the sum of $25,000, for which amount I have handed him a check drawn upon the Assistant Treasurer of the United States at New York. He has strongly resisted me in the matter, not wishing to deviate from his instructions and the rules of your company. Knowing, however, that the matter as proposed and insisted upon by me will not conflict in any way with your interest, and as “necessity knows no law,” I have taken such steps in this affair as the occasion arid the wants of my troops demand.
