A case of conscience.
The following note, which we publish
verbetim et literatum, was received at the War Department yesterday, and had no signature.
The chirography of the note is exceedingly bad, and has every appearance of being purposely disguised:
‘
"
Mr Bledro Sur.
Place find in this sixty are dollars & ½ 63 50. this you must give into the trry as it belongs their & state in daily despatch twasrecev by you"
’
The enclosure of sixty-eight dollars and fifty cents was promptly paid over to the
Treasurer of the
Confederate States by
Mr. Bledsoe, who, while he is much mystified in regard to the circumstance, is satisfied that conscience has upbraided at least one guilty mind in this community.
