ἴα: one, the same. For the form, see § 23 a. For the meaning, cf. “μία Γ” 238. γῆρυς: speech. Cf. “πολλοὶ γὰρ κατὰ ἄστυ μέγα Πριάμου ἐπίκουροι”,| “ἄλλη δ᾽ ἄλλων γλῶσσα πολυσπερέων” (widely scattered) “ἀνθρώπων Β” 803 f. In these two passages the poet indicates more distinctly than elsewhere the consciousness of a difference of speech between the nations of the Trojan allies. But he nowhere intimates that the Trojans and Achaeans spoke different languages.This text is part of:
