4 اطال ذ and اطول , as trans.: see 2, in five places. -A2- اطالت المَرْأَةُ The woman brought forth tall children, (S, A, O, K,) or a tall child. (K.) It is said in a trad., (S,) or in a prov., not a trad., (K,) but IAth declares it to be a trad., and in the trads. of the Prophet are many celebrated provs., (MF,) إِِنَّ القَصِيرَةَ قَدْ تُطِيلُ [Verily the short woman sometimes brings forth tall children], (S, O, K,) قَدْ تُقْصِرُوَإِِنَّ الطَّوِيلَةَ [and verily the tall woman sometimes brings forth short children]. (O.) ― -b2- See also 1, last sentence but one. ― -b3- One says also, اطال لِفَرَسِهِ He tied his horse with the rope [or tether, called طِوَل]. (TA.)
