TA´RSIA

TA´RSIA (Ταρσίη, Arrian Ind. chap. 37), a promontory on the coast of Carmania, visited by the fleet of Nearchus. The conjecture of Vincent (Voyage of Nearchus, i. p. 362) that it is represented by the present Rás-al-Djerd appears well founded. It is perhaps the same as the Themisteas Promontorium of Pliny (6.25) as suggested by Müller (Geog. Graec. i. p. 360.)
