Our faith.
Belief in honor, justice, right and truth.
For this faith we fought; our brothers died for it; we have stood fast by it, and by it we will be preserved from the trials and temptations that are to come.
Some time ago the
War-
Lord of
Germany startled the world with an epigram: ‘We Germans fear God and nothing else in the world.’
But we can say with perfect simplicity and earnestness: ‘We Confederates, men and women, love God and fear nothing in this world nor the next, in the past nor in the future; for the past we have made glorious, the future we will render illustrious.
This world the indomitable soul will conquer; the next inexhaustible love will save.’
At the conclusion of this fine effort the monument was unveiled by
Captain J. N. Barney, an ex-Confederate navy officer who served with distinction throughout the war.
