3 خالجهُ خالج خالجه خالجة , (A, Msb, TA,) inf. n. مُخَالَجَةٌ, (Mgh,) He contended with him, (A, Mgh, * Msb, TA,) [as though drawing, or pulling, him, (see 6,)] namely, a man. (TA.) You say, خالجهُ الشَّىْءَ He contended with him for the thing. (A.) And خَالَجَنِى القِرَآءَةَ (assumed tropical:) He vied with me in reciting the words of prayer, (Mgh, * TA,) uttering aloud what I uttered aloud, so that he took from my tongue what I was reciting, and I did not [or could not] continue to do so. (TA, from a trad.) And خالج قَلْبِى أَمْرٌ (tropical:) A thing, or an affair, troubled my heart with contending thoughts. (K, TA.) And مَا يُخَالِجُنِى فِى ذٰلِكَ الأَمْرِ شَكٌّ (tropical:) [Doubt does not contend with me respecting that affair], meaning I doubt not respecting that affair. (Sh, TA.)
