Extortioners.

The Rev. Dr. Wm. A. Smith delivered a discourse in Petersburg on Sunday night last, in which he very severely and justly denounced the contemptible and disloyal practice pursued on the part of those merchants and others infesting the South who have been, and are not, extorting from our citizens their very life blood, in demanding about five times the price for dry goods and provisions formerly asked. The Yankee spirit evinced by this class of persons should be speedily checked, or much suffering will ensue on account of the masses — those who are living upon inadequate salaries — being unable to pay for the actual necessaries of life.
