quiet Reigns--Gen. Johnston's order to observe Fast day. Manassas, Nov. 18
--Everything continues quiet here, although rumors are as thick as leaves in Vallambrosa.
Not having been published, I send you a copy of Gen. Johnston's order to the army of the Potomac, in furtherance of the President's proclamation setting at Friday last as a day of thanksgiving.
It is so chaste, and beautiful that it ought to be made public:
Headquarters Army Of Potomac, November 14, 1861.
General Orders--No. 8:
In accordance with the proclamation of the President of the Confederate States, Friday, the 18th day of November, 1861, is not apart as a day of fasting, humiliation and prayer; and the plains of this army are invited to implore the of almighty God upon our arms, that He may give us victory over our enemies, preserve our homes and altars from pollution, and secure to us the restoration of peace and prosperity.
