--The St. Louis Republican conjectures that Gen. Burnside is making an effort to get at least part of his army into Virginia, to co-operate with McClellan. Just before the last decisive advance is made upon the rebel capital (it says) we shall probably hear of the capture of Petersburg and the possession by our forces of the Appomattox river, which operation will be greatly beneficial in cutting off the backward march of the enemy after he shall have been driven out of his seat of Government.
