[110] ἔφασκε sc. ὁ θεὸς （εὑρεθήσεσθαι τὸ ἴχνος）. τὸ δὲ ζητούμενον: δὲ has a sententious force, = “now.” The γνώμη, though uttered in an oracular tone, is not part of the god's message. Cp. Eur. fr. 435 αὐτός τι νῦν δρῶν εἶτα δαίμονας κάλει: ι τῷ γὰρ πονοῦντι καὶ θεὸς συλλαμβάνει.
