[299] ἐμπέφυκεν a divine gift of prophecy: Hdt. 9.94 (of the seer Evenius) καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα αὐτίκα ἔμφυτον μαντικὴν εἶχε.
ἀνθρώπων μόνῳ above all other men: cp. Soph. OC 261 “μόνας ... ι σώζειν οἵας τε κ.τ.λ.,” Athens, above all other cities, can save: Isoc. 14.57 “ὀφείλετε δὲ μόνοι τῶν Ἑλλήνων τοῦτον τὸν ἔρανον,” unice (though others owe it also).
