311. Retention of imperfect and pluperfect indicative in oratio obliqua.

The imperfect and pluperfect having no optative, the retention of the indicative is to be expected.

ἐδεῖτο Θεογένης . . . λέγων ὅτι οὐκ ᾔδει Νεαίρας αὐτὴν οὖσαν θυγατέρα, ἀλλ᾽ ἐξαπατηθείη ὑπὸ Στεφάνου”, DEM. [59]DEM., 81; Theogenes begged saying that he did not know that she was the daughter of Neaera, but that he had been deceived by Stephanus.
