Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch.
exciting contest at Hampden Sidney College.

Hampden Sidney College, Feb. 24th.
The election for best speaker's medal and Junior Orators, for Commencement, came off in the two Literary Societies on the night of the 22d Feb. The contest was a most exciting one. In the Union Society, the medal was awarded to Mr. T. M. McCorkle, of Lynchburg, and Messrs. W. W. Page, of Va., and W. H. Wise, of La., were elected Junior Orators for Commencement. In the Philanthropic Society, the medal was awarded to Mr. R. B. Berkley, of Prince Edward, and Messrs. W. U. Markland and J. S. Watkins elected Junior Orators. Upon the announcement of the result of the ballot, the enthusiasm was intense. The whole neighborhood resounded with shouts of applause. Then commenced a display of fireworks which was indeed grand. The whole affair closed with a beautiful serenade to the successful candidates.

Hon. Roger A. Pryor will address the Societies at Commencement, at which time the medals will be delivered and the Junior Orators will speak.
