Hacks.

--Reliable gentlemen have given information that the city hackmen are in the habit of putting the most outrageous tariff on their services — especially if performed out of the city — on strangers, whom, by dint of impudence, they fleece to any tune desired. The rates for riding which have been established by ordinance of the City Council are reasonable, and are required to be hung up in each hack, so as to be distinctly seen. Parties attempting extortion can be reported to the Mayor and fined or otherwise punished. Because some unprincipled parties have fleeced certain hackmen, it is no reason that they should retaliate on innocent parties.
