--The
Leesburg Democratic Mirror, of the 26th inst., says:
‘
Col. Stone, with about 20 Federal soldiers, reached the
Point of Rocks on Monday.
We learn that in conversation with one or two gentlemen from this side the river,
Stone expressed some surprise that the bridges along the
Potomac should have been destroyed; said he had no idea of crossing, but that when he received orders to do so, the absence of the bridges would amount to nothing, as he was familiar with the river and could cross where he pleased.
He also professed to be well posted in regard to the number and character of the troops on this side the river, their place of encampment, &c., in all of which he may one day find himself sadly deceived.--He very graciously stated that no man crossing the river without letters or firearms would be interfered with.
We learn, however, that the authorities here have put an end to all opportunities for similar talks.
