مَشْرَبٌ ذ is a noun of place, [and of time,] as well as an inf. n.: [i. e.] it signifies [A place, and a time, of drinking: or] the quarter (وَجْه) whence one drinks: (S, TA:) and a place to which one comes to drink at a river or rivulet: (TA:) and ↓ مَشْرَبَةٌ , (S, Msb, K, TA,) not, as is implied in the K, مَشْرُبَةٌ also, (TA,) signifies [the same, as is indicated in the A; or] a place whence people drink; (Msb, TA; *) i. q. مَشْرَعَةٌ; (K;) or like a مَشْرَعَة. (S, TA.) One says, هٰذَا مَشْرَبُ القَوْمِ and ↓ مَشْرَبَتُهُمْ [This is the people's, or party's, drinkingplace, or place whence they drink]. (A.) And it is said in a trad., ↓ مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ أَحَاطَ عَلَى مَشْرَبَةٍ , (S, TA,) i. e. [Cursed is he] who takes entirely to himself, debarring others from it, a place whence people drink.
