[362] φιλομμειδής. The doubling of “μ” represents the absorption of “ς”, as the original form of the word is “φιλοσμειδής” from Skt. root smi, as in smi-ta-m, ‘a smile.’ Theog.200 the form “φιλομμηδέα” (“ὅτι μηδέων ἐξεφαάνθη”) is given, but the line is rightly rejected by Gaisford.
