ἐπεί, temporal, ‘since’ (like “ἐξ οὗ”), as oft. in Her.and the poets. So also “ὅτε” ( Thuc. 1.13ἔτη δ᾽ ἐστὶ...τριακόσια...ὅτε...ἧλθε”).

ἐν νυκτὶ τῇ νῦν, last night: so “νυκτὸς τῆσδεAi. 21 (cp. ib. 209): “νυκτὶ τῇδεEl. 644: while ‘tonight’ is “τῆς ἐπιούσης νυκτός” (Plat. Crito 46A). The Argives, having on the preceding day lost all their leaders except Adrastus, fled shortly before dawn (cp. 100).

ὑπέρτερον here simply = “πλέον” (cp. nihil supra).

As “οἶδ᾽ εὐτυχοῦσα οἶδ᾽ ὅτι εὐτυχῶ”, so the participles εὐτυχοῦσα and ἀτωμένη are epexegetic of “οὐδὲν ὑπέρτερον”, = “οὔθ᾽ ὅτι εὐτυχῶ οὔθ᾽ ὅτι ἀτῶμαι”. Of “ἀτᾶσθαι” we find only this pres. part. (below, 314, Ai. 384, Eur. Suppl. 182) and “ἀτώμεσθαAi. 269.
