ξένος μέτοικος
a foreign sojourner: ξένος, because Oed. was reputed a Corinthian. In poetry μέτοικος is simply one who comes to dwell with others: it has not the full technical sense which belonged to it at Athens, a resident alien: hence the addition of ξένος was necessary. Cp. Soph. OC 934 “μέτοικος τῆσδε γῆς”: Soph. Ant. 868 “πρὸς οὓς” （to the dead） ἅδ᾽ ἐγὼ μέτοικος ἔρχομαι.
εἶτα δὲ
opp. to νῦν μέν, implied in ἐνθάδε. —ἐγγενὴς, “native,” as γεννητός is opp. to ποιητός (adoptivus).
