Ἀκραγαντίνων—Girgenti, ‘the fairest of mortal cities’ (Pind. Pyth. XII. 1), remained neutral throughout. Cf. on c. 32.1. The life of Empedocles of Acragas, 484-424, about covers the greatest period in the history of Sicilian art.
