πολλὰ δὲ καὶ ἄλλα—M. W. Humphreys examines this phrase in Class. Rev. v. 431, and concludes that καὶ is not needed in connecting ἄλλος with πολύς, and that when it is inserted, it means also. He shows that ἄλλοι πολλοὶ is very common and πολλοὶ ἄλλοι not rare.

οἷον εἰκὸς—note the phrase and cf. εἰκότως.

πείραιςstratagems. Bloomfield notes that πεῖρα implies trickery. Cf. Soph. Aj. 2 πεῖράν τιν᾽ ἐχθρῶν ἁρπάσαι.
