[446] ἀλγύνοις suits the continuing action better than ἀλγύναις. The aor. occurs Soph. Trach. 458(ἀλγύνειεν) and Eur. IA 326(ἀλγῦναι): but αις and αι, as optative endings, are not elsewhere found in Soph.
