[446] ἀλγύνοις suits the continuing action better than ἀλγύναις. The aor. occurs Soph. Trach. 458（ἀλγύνειεν） and Eur. IA 326（ἀλγῦναι）: but αις and αι, as optative endings, are not elsewhere found in Soph.
