[723] τοιαῦτα ... διώρισαν i.e. made predictions at once so definite and so false: φῆμαι, a solemn word used scornfully: cp. 86. The sense of διώρισαν in 1083 is slightly different: here we might compare Dem. 20.158 Δράκων ... καθαρὸν διώρισεν εἶναι,” “has laid down that the man is pure.”
